Instant Hot Chia Cereal

Instant Hot Chia Cereal

In our house, we love this tasty combination of nuts, seeds, and fruit: a super filling nutritious quick breakfast or snack. Customize the recipe with your favourite nuts, seeds, and fruit. (Chia seeds are an ancient Mesoamerican super food, high in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and fiber - one of the most important foods of the Aztecs and Mayans.)

Ingredients / Directions:

3/4 c chia seeds
1/2 c quinoa flakes (and/or instant/quick oats)
1 c chopped dates (and/or dried figs, or other dried fruit)
1/2 c chopped walnuts (and/or pecans, almonds, cashews...)
1/4 c pepitas (and/or sunflower seeds)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp sea salt (optional)

Combine all ingredients and keep in sealed container.

To make one serving: In a small bowl combine about 1/4 c of cereal into 1/4 - 1/3 c boiling hot water* (or hot milk or milk substitute) and mix well. Let sit 2 minutes or longer.

*If making this raw, use warm water, and let sit 5 minutes or longer.
