Booze Health Cookie ~News

* Love of Chocolate May Have Begun With Cacao Beer
"New archaeological findings by John S. Henderson of Cornell and Rosemary A. Joyce of the University of California, Berkeley, and colleagues push the date of the first use of cacao back to about 1100 B.C., 500 years earlier than previously known. What’s more, the researchers suggest that this early beverage was something different again — a fermented beer made from cacao pulp, not seeds."

I'd like some lemon with my tea please.

* Christmas Countdown:The 40 Best Cookie Recipes For Shipping
~ that was a super-fun list to peruse (mostly very rich refined sugary goods). My list would include a variety of super-delicious, crunchy, (sturdy!) and surprisingly healthy biscotti like Chocolate Almond Bran Biscotti or Pecan Gingerbread Biscotti...

Creepy Zombie Finger Cookies

It's devil's night - one night away from one of my favorite occasions: Halloween!

I scored these creepy almond finger cookies at a bake sale at St.Mike's - fund-raising for the Heart & Vascular Program. They were presented in an splendidly gross manner: sticking out of a bowl of brown sugar: zombie fingers coming out of the earth to get you... I couldn't resist!

busyx2 + Swiss Cookie #1

My favorite cookie (while in Switzerland) from a lovely little artisan bakery in Vevey: made with ground almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts.

Hi!

Been very busy lately~

I'm preparing live video for a new music festival - seems worlds apart from healthy baking, but not so! I bake while rendering video (which is kind of like baking), and it's best to have
healthy snacks on hand when working hard ;-)

...so yes, I've still been baking and researching. I'm excited to share all sorts of amazing recipes in the months to come! (I'm also excited about the upcoming re-launch of pattycake.ca - soon...)

Monster Cookies!

Monster cookie
Yum!

Recipe: MONSTER COOKIES!

These are awesome: chunky, peanut buttery, oaty, chocolaty - with the added sophistication of candied orange peel. Adults LOVE these. Haven't made them for kids yet, though I think I'd swap the peel for chopped apricots... Similar to the classic monster cookie, these MONSTER COOKIES have been updated to be dairy-free + healthier. I like to keep a couple in my purse as they're great for a hearty energy boost. :-)

matcha maccha

matcha cookie
beautiful matcha green

Here's a matcha cookie I recently made from rice flour, olive oil, honey, tapioca starch, matcha, and salt. I ended up using too much matcha (2 Tbsp) and got a bit of a buzz off them :-)

Snowflake cookie stamp was a lovely gift from girlfriend Pea.

Behold a stack of lovely savory and sweet shortbread from Alchemy Baking.

The varieties, from top to bottom, are:

  • rosemary lemon pepper
  • lime caraway
  • hemp vanilla
  • fair trade coffee

Sweet Honey! Peanut Butter Cookies
